I guess I should start with my short time in Halifax, my last Canadian stop before I left on a jet plane. I didn't have as much time to visit with my brother as I would have liked, but he did bring home his fresh bread for me to sample every day. You can't fault a guy for working his tail of to provide for his family. I did, however, spend a fair bit of time with my sister-in-law and their ten-week old baby boy. I am glad to have been able to spend lots of time with that little guy, he is super cute. Of course, I have yet to change a diaper. I figure that's my prerogative as an uncle: I can spoil my niece and nephew without having to do the hard or gross work, unless I want to. I am still envious as hell of both my brother and sister, one of these days I might get to be a parent.
I did make a new friend while I was in Halifax, well we met in Toronto's Pearson Airport. I must count myself fortunate, I tend to meet really interesting people where ever I am. It's always a little bitter sweet to meet like minded people when traveling, moving to the next place means leaving your friends behind. Anyway, there are always cheap flights to Europe and the miracle of email.
One last thing about Halifax, it wasn't until I was on my to the airport the gravity of the situation hit me. I wasn't on my way back to Ottawa, I wasn't going to Toronto, I was about to get on a plane to the UK with no plans to come back for a while. Way cool.
